Twenty years of diplomatic relations between China and South Africa a major contributor to local economic and social transformation
Twenty years of diplomatic relations between China and South Africa a major contributor to local economic and social transformation. South Africa-China Economic and Trade Association (SACETA) on Thursday hosted Chinese and South African delegates for the official release of the 2018 Corporate Social Responsibility Report of Chinese-Funded Enterprises in South Africa. At the launch event, Chairman of the Association and General Manager of China Construction Bank Corporation, Zhang Jinguo shared that the report depicts the on-going cohesion between China and South Africa, which entails job creation, social responsibility, local manufacturing, and the preservation of wildlife and natural reserve protection.Publishing a report of this nature for the first time in South Africa is a massive achievement for the 130 Chinese-funded enterprises that contributes to economic development and livelihood in South African communities. The report highlights how much has been done and also sparks creativity for further bilateral trade and corporate social responsibility. “The report is a window. When you open the book, you open the window. It serves as a good model for SACETA members,” Jinguao said.Chinese Ambassador in South Africa, HE Lin Songtian, said that the 2018 Corporate Social Responsibility Report of Chinese-Funded Enterprises in South Africa is a showcase of how Chinese enterprises implement the common values of friendship and justice that exists between the two countries. China has been SA’s biggest trade partner for 9 years and bilateral trade for the first quarter of 2018 amounted to 33.2 billion USD.There are many factors that point to a mutually beneficial commitment. The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) took place in Beijing this year, while South Africa hosted the 10th annual BRICS Summit. Furthermore, China’s top 5 financial institutions have branches in South Africa.Songtian believes that the two countries are in a season of embracing new historic opportunities, with special consideration of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s vision for South Africa to attract domestic and foreign investment. The Chinese sentiment maintains that this is indeed a win-win cooperation.Going forward, Dr Miriam Altman, Commissioner of National Planning Commission believes that the National Development Plan 2030 (NDP) relies heavily on the existing Africa-China relationship. “We need to seek more balanced trade, increase tourism prospects, and give fair attention to education and skills training, not forsaking deeper cooperation in innovation,” Altman concluded.
India are back to familiar territory and Virat Kohli’s men will be looking to continue their dominance against a West Indies side that is not expected to provide India much of a challenge in their home conditions.Ind vs WI live cricket score ball by ballAll eyes will be on the young and dynamic Prithvi Shaw, who is set to make his Test debut and become India’s 293rd Test player when India take the field on Thursday at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.India will be looking to bounce back from their 1-4 series defeat to England, where they played good cricket but just couldn’t hold their own during crucial junctures of the game and ended up surrendering the matches. The two Tests against West Indies will be India’s last opportunity to test themselves in red-ball cricket before flying out to Australia later in the year, where they will play three T20Is, four Tests and three ODIs.India are likely to go with three spinners in the form of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav. In the absence of Hardik Pandya, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami are the only two pace options India will go with if they at all decide to go with just two pacers.West Indies on the other hand, the Jason Holder-led Caribbean side boasts of some talented cricketers in their squad but lacks the required experience to challenge the No. 1 Test side.Only five players in the 15-man West Indian squad have played a Test in India. Moreover, another cause of concern for the visitors is Kemar Roach as the pace spearhead will miss the series-opener due to personal reasons.advertisementWest Indies had last won a Test series against India in 2002 and it looks difficult for them to beat Kohli’s men at their own backyard.India vs West Indies 1st Test Live Streaming: How to watch IND vs WI Live Streaming on Hotstar, JioTV and AirtelIndia vs West Indies 1st Test live streaming from Rakot: Watch IND vs WI 1st Test match free live streaming online: Watch IND vs WI Final Live on Hotstar, JioTV and Airtel TV.What time does the 1st Test between India vs West Indies start?Day 1 of the first Test starts on 9:30 AM IST on October 4, Wednesday at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium. What TV channel and live stream is the 1st Test between India and West Indies Live Streaming on?Star Sports 1 and Star Sports 1 HD in English commentary and Star Sports 3 and Star Sports 3 HD in Hindi Commentary. The SAG-AFTRA Foundation has announced it will bestow its Actors Inspiration Award to critically-acclaimed actress and philanthropist Kate Winslet, highlighting her career achievements and honoring her charitable work. The nonprofit’s Patron of the Artists Awards celebration will also honor director/producer Judd Apatow, Academy Award winning director Kathryn Bigelow, and Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos for their roles in supporting actors and performing artists in their careers. The event takes place Thursday, November 9, at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills. Academy Award winning actress Kate Winslet has brought to life some of cinema’s most captivating and memorable roles. Her resume consists of critically and commercially acclaimed work including Steve Jobs, Little Children, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Iris, Titanic, and Sense and Sensibility, as well as a span of awards and honors that illustrate her talent and solidify her permanent place in cinema history. A seven-time Oscar nominee, Winslet earned the award for her role as Hanna Schmitz in Stephen Daldry’s 2008 “The Reader.” She also won an Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of the title role in the HBO mini-series “Mildred Pierce.” Up next, Winslet will be seen in Hany Abu-Assad’s The Mountain Between Us opposite Idris Elba and Woody Allen’s Wonder Wheel opposite Justin Timberlake and Juno Temple, both of which will be released this winter. As one of the most accomplished actors of our time, Winslet has simultaneously used her artistic platform to champion several philanthropic causes. The SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Actors Inspiration Award recognizes Winslet’s dedication and commitment to a broad array of philanthropic activities ranging from global causes like her own Golden Hat Foundation working for children with autism and their families, and more regional charities in the UK such as Cardboard Citizens whose aim is to rehabilitate and provide creative sanctuary for at-risk and homeless individuals, down to very specific fundraising for disadvantaged individuals seeking life-saving cancer treatments. ”We are so proud to honor Kate Winslet with our Actors Inspiration Award. Without a doubt, Kate is an incomparable actress who we admire for her work and contribution to our craft. Yet, what makes Kate this year’s honoree is the work she does behind the scenes making a difference in the lives of children and adults living with autism through her Golden Hat Foundation while simultaneously supporting so many other worthwhile charities,” said SAG-AFTRA Foundation President JoBeth Williams. “Kate has been a game changer and role model in our industry, setting a sterling example for all artists and leaders to use their influence to give back to the greater welfare of others. We look forward to presenting her with this award for all she has accomplished, and all she has given back.” Leonardo DiCaprio was the first recipient of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Actors Inspiration Award, and previous Patron of the Artists Awards honorees include Lee Daniels, Megan Ellison, and Rob Marshall. The Patron of the Artists Awards event includes musical performances with ticket sales benefitting the SAG-AFTRA Foundation. Sponsors include United Airlines and Variety. Ohio State freshman forward Joshua Jackson-Ketchup (9) takes the ball downfield during the Ohio State- BGSU game on Sep. 22. Credit: Jack Westerheide | Photo EditorTwo goals proved insufficient for both teams as the No. 16 Ohio State men’s soccer team (7-1-1, 3-0-0 Big Ten) tied Detroit Mercy (5-2-2, 2-1 Horizon) 2-2 Tuesday night at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The tie ends the Buckeyes’ win streak at six games and their consecutive shutout streak, which now is the all-time school record at six games. Bluem said he wasn’t overly concerned about the shutout streak coming to an end.“Maybe we were a little too uptight about that,” Bluem said. “Well we don’t have to worry about that now. Now we start a new streak.”The team may have avoided a loss, but Ohio State head coach John Bluem was not happy with the team’s effort.“For me it wasn’t a good soccer game,” Bluem said. “There wasn’t really much soccer played, it was up and down, way too many fouls, I think there was 36 fouls in the game. It’s difficult to play in an environment like that. I think that’s how Detroit wanted the game to be and for us we weren’t able to control the game.”The Buckeyes scored their two goals before the 20th minute, the first coming in the 10th minute off the foot of junior midfielder Abdi Mohamed, assisted on by forward Nate Kohl and defender Kevin Blackwood. The next goal came eight minutes later in the 18th minutes as midfielder Brady Blackwell buried the ball in the net with assists from Kohl and forward Joshua Jackson-Ketchup to give the Buckeyes the 2-0 lead.It was during the 33rd minute when the Buckeyes started to lose their momentum as the Titans’ leading scorer Spiro Pliakos buried his seventh goal of the season, jump-starting the comeback. The tying goal came on a rebound off goalie Parker Siegfried’s hands into the foot of forward Aleks Vushaj in the 64th minute.Bluem took some of the responsibility for the loss of momentum, but also acknowledged that his team lacked consistency throughout the game.“I substituted a little bit too early maybe, when we had the 2-0 lead maybe I should’ve kept that first group on the field that was playing well and see if we could push and get a third goal, so I’ll take responsibility for that,” Bluem said. “But what I think happened their team outcompeted us during stretches of the game and that hasn’t happened to us too much this year. We really have been a team that fights hard for 90 minutes and it wasn’t there tonight. It’s been a long stretch and we’ve played very well over that stretch and today we didn’t have our best game.”The game lasted through two overtimes, but the teams managed only two shots apiece over the combined 20 minutes of play, ending the game in a tie.Though his team saw both the win and shutout streak go by the wayside, Mohamed said a tie should not distract them from the upcoming schedule that includes Big Ten opponents in four of the next six games.“Eventually we were going to get scored on, it’s good to do it now and see how we react to it, so we’ll be ready for October and the challenges to come ahead,” Mohamed said. “We were looking to win, keep the streak going, but now it’s time to regroup and turn our heads to Michigan State.”The Buckeyes will travel to East Lansing, Michigan, to take on conference opponent Michigan State Sunday at 3 p.m.
Lionel Messi and Argentina hit the training ground on Saturday with renewed hope of qualifying for the World Cup last 16, reports The Nation.Argentina were almost eliminated after a shameful 3-0 loss to Croatia, but Nigeria´s 2-0 win over Iceland on Friday offered the two-time world champions a lifeline. A win over Nigeria in their final Group D match in Saint Petersburg on Tuesday would send Argentina up as runners-up if group leaders Croatia avoid defeat against Iceland.Gabriel Mercado, Nicolas Otamendi and midfielder Lucas Biglia trained separately from the rest of the squad in the gym as they recover from minor knocks. It had been suggested that 1986 World Cup winner Jorge Burruchaga, the team´s technical director, would replace Sampaoli, but the claims were strongly denied by the Argentina Football Association (AFA).Messi was kept quiet as Argentina suffered their heaviest first-round group stage defeat since 1958, but the Barcelona forward could yet have his say at what is likely his fourth and final World Cup.Goalkeeper Willy Caballero could be dropped following his mistake for the opening goal against Croatia, with River Plate´s Franco Armani possibly in line to make his international debut.
Milan striker Patrick Cutrone admits he is feeling the benefit of playing with Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentine joined the Rossoneri on loan from Juventus in the summer, and while he’s gone six games without a goal his impact is still being felt at Milanello.Cutrone was recently honoured with the Italian Golden Boy award after missing out on the European version that was awarded to Ajax skipper De Ligt.“Definitely having, for example, Higuain with you helps a lot,” Cutrone told Football Italia via Tuttomercatoweb.Coach Gattuso wanted to congratulate Patrick Cutrone on winning the Italian #GoldenBoy2018 award 🏅I complimenti di Mister Gattuso a Patrick Cutrone, vincitore del Golden Boy italiano 2018! 👏🏻 pic.twitter.com/D5Ot3pprXe— AC Milan (@acmilan) December 17, 2018Higuain is glad of Juve return and reunited with Ronaldo George Patchias – September 12, 2019 Gonzalo Higuain is happy he returned to Juventus and has the opportunity to be reunited with Cristiano Ronaldo. The Argentine spent last season on loan…“I always watch him in training, I try to learn some things and improve every day.“I thank [Gennaro] Gattuso and his staff, I’ll try to improve even more.”With Milan out of Europe, Gattuso’s men are focused on securing another European spot and in the top four spots of the Italian League. And they’d need the duo of Cutrone and Higuain to fire them to glory.
