Cr Patsikatheodorou elected City of Hume mayor

first_imgCr Helen Patsikatheodorou has been elected mayor of the City of Hume for a one-year term. The decision came following a statutory meeting held on Wednesday at the Hume Global Learning Centre. Thrilled with her appointment, Cr Patsikatheodorou said the focus of her term will be to serve the people on issues that matter to them most.“I am passionate about people and the fact that we need to improve our community’s health. It is utterly essential that we stop family violence and support the elderly,” Cr Patsikatheodorou said.The Meadow Valley Ward representative went on to say she will be concentrating on “those with mental illness, the youth, council’s education initiatives, and the protection, safety and wellbeing of all”. Having served as a councillor for many years, this is not her first time in the top job. She was named mayor in 2010.She revealed that her second stint as mayor of the City of Hume would be a great opportunity to promote breast cancer awareness, a cause close to her heart.“Many will know that I have not been healthy in the last few years, after being diagnosed with breast cancer.“I will make it my mantra to be known as the pink mayor,” she said, vowing to wear something pink every day of her mayoral term.Cr Chandra Bamunusinghe, from Aitken Ward, will serve alongside Cr Patsikatheodorou as deputy mayor.
